Parent Involvment

Parent & School Communications
Conferences:
Willow Wood values the sharing of ideas and feelings between parents and teachers. Parent-teacher conferences are held in November and March; however, we recognize that you might have questions or concerns at other times throughout the year. Please let your child’s teacher know if, at any time, you would like to schedule an additional conference. Parents may also submit a written complaint to the Director or the Board of Directors.

Classroom Participation and Other Visits:
Parents are scheduled to participate three or four times a year in their child’s classroom. The anticipation of a special guest is very exciting for all of the children! In addition, parents and grandparents are always invited to visit Willow Wood and observe classroom activity. Please check with your child’s teachers before you come.

Written Communications:
Willow Wood makes every effort to keep parents fully informed of their child’s activities and significant events at the school. Each week, you will receive a report entitled "Our Week at School," which summarizes your child’s classroom activities. Each month, you will receive our newsletter, "The Messenger," with important details about school events. Additionally, the bulletin boards on the top floor landing and in the main hallway are filled with school and community announcements.

Our Library:
We have many pertinent books and articles addressing a wide variety of topics related to child development and parenting. They are located in the front hallway, and parents are invited to peruse them at any time. You are also welcome to borrow them through the Director’s office.

Volunteers
Volunteers are so important to our school and its programs, and we are always grateful for any help parents can provide. There are numerous opportunities for parents to contribute time and talents to help the school:

Join the Board of Directors:
Willow Wood is entirely board run by a dedicated group of parent volunteers. The Board always welcomes new members, and interested parents can complete an application in January. Board members agree to a three-year commitment. For more information, please contact the board relations officer.

Become a Room Parent:
Volunteering to be a room parent is a one-year commitment that allows you to serve as a liaison between the school and the parents of your child’s classmates. Some examples of room parent responsibilities include organizing play dates for your class, hosting social events for the parents, coordinating teacher holiday and year end gifts, organizing and creating the class project and working with teachers on special projects. It is a great opportunity to get to know Willow Wood, its teachers and your child’s class a little better.

Work at one of our many social and fundraising events:

  • Back-to-School Picnic
  • Halloween Party
  • Snowflake Festival
  • End-of-Year Ice Cream Social
  • Fall and Spring fund raising events
